What do you think of when you hear the phrase, "Happy Holidays?" Most people in the United States think of Christmas, but did you know there are lots of winter holidays celebrated all over the world? Jewish people celebrate Hanukah (or Chanukkah) which lasts for 8 days. Hindu families in India celebrate Diwali. The Winter Solstice, this year December 21st, marks the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. Many African-American families celebrate Kwanzaa as well as Christmas. What holiday does your family celebrate during the winter? Please write 2 or 3 sentences what you've learned about different holidays.
Everyone knows what good manners are. Saying "please" and "thank you," taking turns, and sharing are good manners. In our Centennial Creed, we say "kind words are the tools I will use to make my school a peaceful place." Good manners are showing respect for others. How do you feel when someone doesn't use kind words? What about if someone calls you names in class or the cafeteria? Sometimes people forget about good manners when they're online. They think that no one can see them. The thing is, when you're on the Internet no one can tell if you're joking. Anyone can read what you write and some people will make fun of you online. Why would you want to be friends with someone who is mean to you? When you're on a blog, you are representing yourself, your family and your school. Think about what it means to be a good Centennial Citizen. Now think about some time when you've been teased, or maybe when you teased someone else. Tell us about how you can be a good Centennial Citizen on the internet. |
