The mission of the Centennial Academy Media Center is to encourage a lifetime love of reading among students by providing easy access to current materials, and activities that support our school's curriculum standards. By using library resources, Centennial Academy scholars and educators will be high achievers, critical thinkers, lifelong learners, and ethical leaders in a global society. To support this vision, our media center is open to families as well as scholars and staff to encourage lifelong reading for enjoyment.
The terms "library" and "media center" are interchangeable and refer to a safe space to access information.
Be sure to ask Ms. Burke about electronic and public library resources.
Regular media center hours:
7:30am - 3:30pm Monday-Thursday except school holidays (Ask about “extra hours”).
Our library is staffed by one certified library media specialist, Jennifer Burke, and Mrs. Joni Chandler assists Ms. Burke with circulation and all other activities. Ms. Burke holds an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Instructional Technology from Kennesaw State University, a Masters of Science in Library Service (M.S.L.S.) from Clark Atlanta University and a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Political Science from Auburn University.
We want everyone - scholars, parents, and teachers - to read for fun every day, because people who read become people who think.
Our library uses a flexible schedule which allows open access throughout the school day while supporting classroom instruction and special events.
More detailed information about our Media Center program can be found in the official Centennial Academy Media Center Policies and Procedures, 2022-23.

- Individual scholars are welcome to visit the library any time before school begins (with permission) and during the school day with a written pass from a teacher.
- Teachers may send small groups to the media center with a written pass anytime throughout the school day. Whole class visits should be scheduled in advance with Ms. Burke.
- Please do not visit the library during the dismissal period (3:00-3:45) because we will be out "on duty" supporting safe dismissal.
- Most students may check out 2 library books at a time. Kindergarten and 1st grade scholars keep their books in the classroom, and their parents may check out up to 10 additional books for them to read at home. Teachers may check out up to 20 books to support classroom instruction (please return books promptly at the end of the unit).
- Books should be returned in 2 weeks (or as soon as you're finished!) but can be renewed if scholars need more time.
- Lost or damaged books should be replaced (preferred) or paid for. Talk with Ms. Burke if you have questions.
- Our library book budget is about $10,000 this year. This money is used to buy new books, ebooks and magazines for student and classroom use.
- The library budget is supplemented by our Book Fair. Gifts and donations are always welcome and are accepted consistent with our acquisitions policy. There is also an Amazon Wish List for donations.
- Parents, friends and family members are valued volunteers in our media center. Volunteers help shelve books, read stories, serve on committees and prepare materials for special events. Junior Beta members and high-school-age siblings will receive community service hours when they volunteer. Please contact Ms. Burke if you would like to help in the media center.
- Our Media Committee (media specialist, 2 teachers, 2 students, 2 parents, administrator) provides input into library policies, procedures and purchases. Contact Ms. Burke if you are interested in service on this team.
- All scholars must have a signed technology agreement on file before they are issued school technology.
